You got me! I was convinced he was going to fall in a giant spider web. The fantasy change is more provoking. Altogether for me it is still more a 1934 comic i.e. Flash Gordon!!
Anyway, I find a bit sad all the crew clearly died, as much further in the story some of them could have appear to give a twist in the adventures (and not necessarily surviving to them…)
