When I first wrote this script, back around 2002-2003, the possibility of a manned NASA mission to Mars by 2015 was admittedly unlikely, but seemed at least sort of plausible (enough for a comic strip, anyway). Now, of course, I know better.
Oh well… I’m not much of a prophet, I guess.

Try 2025 for a more realistic time line, but ten years isn’t a bad guess. The Ares program hadn’t launched in 2002-2003. Of course, the program has now been canceled, too. NASA is still has a Mars target, but they are doing some soul searching.
Nice callback to the ’70s “Buck Rogers” in the intro there, Chris! 🙂 Makes me feel right at home, coming here from Space:1970.
