In my mind, the gauntlet was Shikari technology that allowed Drykos to mentally direct the baylocs en masse. Even without it, though, he’s been Jane Goodall-ing with the bloodthirsty simians for a while, and has a bond with them. They still dig him, but he can’t get inside their heads and make them do stuff anymore.
