Thanks! I don’t believe POPX is in any way better than Burroughs (though we appreciate the compliment!) – We’re simply trying to craft a contemporary “take” on the genre he defined.
In the original script, he called the pirate “Long John Silver,” but I realized that Hawke was born in the 80’s, and to him, “Long John Silver’s” was a seafood restaurant chain, and that as a young man in his 30s he’d probably be more familiar with the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies than Treasure Island.
I’m still not certain it works… it feels a bit too forced. Oh well.
I read some original Burroughs after the John Carter movie, but I like this comic better. (Nicely engineered shirt rip!)
